{"id":2022,"date":"2018-01-17T19:57:52","date_gmt":"2018-01-17T19:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wp-ra.org.uk\/?p=2022"},"modified":"2018-03-30T12:22:57","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T11:22:57","slug":"gardening-club-programme-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wp-ra.org.uk\/?p=2022","title":{"rendered":"Gardening Club programme 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Winter and spring<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Friday, 9 March 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>An Evening with Anne Swithinbank<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Burton &amp; Rossett Horticultural Society is pleased to welcome horticulturist, broadcaster and writer, Anne Swithinbank as the special guest for March 2018.\u00a0Anne is perhaps best known for her regular appearances on Gardeners&#8217; Question Time, as well as presenting television programmes including <em>The Gardens of the Caribbean<\/em>\u00a0and <em>The Chelsea Flower Show<\/em>\u00a0on the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>Anne will be giving her popular talk, &#8220;<strong><em>Grow Something Different<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u2014 unusual plants to ring the changes and raise eyebrows, both edible and ornamental<\/strong>&#8220;. This will be followed by cheese and wine, and a Q&amp;A session.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets \u00a315. Spring Talk.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Edible Landscaping<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our speaker is Richard Smedley.<\/p>\n<p>Richard is a social entrepreneur, currently helping charities and community groups with sustainable IT solutions. He is a certificated permaculture designer, former Garden Organic advisor, Prince 2 project manager, and trained in horticulture at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.<\/p>\n<p>Community Centre. Tickets: \u00a34 at the door.<\/p>\n<p>Bar, light refreshments, plant and seed swap.<\/p>\n<p>All WP residents welcome.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Summer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, 16 May. <\/strong><strong>Garden Visit.*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bodnant Gardens<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bodnant Rd, Tal-y-cafn, Colwyn Bay LL28 5RE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With its hillside setting the garden\u2019s 32 hectares (80 acres) drop dramatically from manicured lawns and grand, flower-filled terraces, through buzzing wildflower meadows and shrub-filled glades, into awe-inspiring dells of water gardens and towering trees.<\/p>\n<p>Meet in the coffee shop by the main car park at<\/p>\n<p>11 am. Garden Visit.* <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Bodrhyddan Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dyserth Road, Clwyd LL18 5SB<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bodrhyddan Hall is a Grade I listed building and has been the home of Lord Langford and his family for over 500 years. Set in several acres of stunning formal gardens and reclaimed woodland, the house\u00a0is one of the few remaining family-owned stately homes in Wales.<\/p>\n<p>Meet at Bodrhyddan Hall at 2 pm for the audio guided tour of the gardens. Unfortunately the grounds have limited disabled access.<\/p>\n<p>Cost: \u00a34; \u00a37 for combined Hall and Garden tour. Refreshments are available from the tea rooms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Saturday, 11 August. Jane is a former teacher who has exchanged teenagers for plants. She is a trained horticulturist who specialises in cottage garden perennials.<\/p>\n<p>Community Centre. Tickets: \u00a34 at the door.<\/p>\n<p>Bar, light refreshments, plant and seed swap.<\/p>\n<p>All WP residents welcome.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Bulb planting programme.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Gardening Club will continue its programme of bulb planting throughout Westminster Park estate.<\/p>\n<p>To date we have planted many thousands of daffodil bulbs and some 600 crocus corms throughout the Westminster Park estate.
